 Complicit while manufacturing a home grown Canadian Trump, and ad clicks.

While I read this article, this condemnation of Trump, I thought about Canada's political direction and sadly see many parallels. The Conservative Party of Canada uses much of same playbook Trump is using, not all, but some.

Trump gained power through the Republican Party and maintained that power through that stunningly corrupt party. The #CPC are playing the same game; denigrate, demean, debase and delegitimize their opponents because they offer nothing else, except maybe American style “gun rights.” They, like the GOP and Trump, have found it easier to convince their followers the world as they know it is coming to an end and that their Conservative leader is the only one who can stave off the coming Armageddon.

Conservatives deny climate change, discard science out of hand, demand more pipelines even as the world divests from oil investment. They have had leadership contenders demonstrate primitive, bigoted even racist ideas that subjugate women, First Nations, POC, LGBTQ, and asylum seekers. Many blame all their ills on grateful immigrants who work harder than they do because they know, first hand, how cruel the world can be. CPC has politicized a virus and ignore every medical professional in Canada as if they can blame their way out of an ICU.

They openly attack anyone not like them, not in their camp, not part of their ideological drive. The American MSM gave us Trump the same way Canadian MSM gave us Kenney and Ford. Kenny lied his way to power, Ford stumbled and fumbled his way to power offering nothing more than a buck a beer and denigrating his opponents. Now, both are busily dismantling their respective provinces and yet are still offered respect and an open stage to accuse and demean their opponents, it's always someone else's fault, it's always the other guy who did them wrong.

Kenney has a 'war-room' and an entire phalanx of 'issues managers' and media spokespeople whose sole purpose is to blame someone else and protect him. The talking heads in Canadian MSM operate in the rarified air that only self-interest and self-assured arrogance can offer. They use their pulpits for revenge and personal non-political agendas all the while denying their clear bias and, in some cases on badly stacked TV panel shows, wild eyed hatred. The young reporters and essayists in the business have little choice in what they produce. They need to hand their business manager editor publishable copy, ad clickable. They need 'fresh angles' or break new 'scandals' real or imagined to grow or maintain a career. Some use a single question asked repeatedly, looking for that one time to get that 'right' answer.

The Globe and Mail has made bank producing one 'scandal' after the next by dint of unnamed, unverified, single anonymous sources who are never, ever, held to account. An obscenity, not journalism. Canada is being overwhelmed by Trumpian/GOP led politicians who see power as the endgame and they don't care how they get there. The GOP has propped up and protected Trump as he destroys his own country and takes down the world's health and economy on the way.

The American owned Postmedia chain was allowed to become the propaganda arm of the #CPC by Harper's ministers not acting to stop the takeover & expansion of a large Canadian media conglomerate. Its board was infused with American media people including the owners of the National Enquirer and is still propped up financially by an American hedge fund. Postmedia is the GOP voice in Canada. They chose pro-Republican writers to alter the political landscape in Canada. Today's Conservative Party of Canada is a cheap knock-off of the Republican Party and, with the help of a complicit MSM, Canada will get it's very own Trump.
